knowing the right steps in choosing kitchen units is a must
i know how stressful it is to buy the right kitchen units, and so i assembled the steps that will simplify it for you. so get a cup of soothing tea and read on.
Planning for your kitchen units
Choosing the right kitchen units for your home can be a hassle when you don't have a budget.
Having an organized plan of how much you are willing to spend is important, along with how you want to spend the allotted money. For instance, it's always good to decide whether you want to pay upfront or use instalments. Also, knowing what style of kitchen you want is another important thing to consider before buying any kitchen unit.
However, what is more important than having a plan is having the right mindset. When you have the right mindset, your planning will be easy and enjoyable; as you know, you won't do it if it feels like a hassle. You must begin your journey to acquiring your perfect kitchen with the attitude and belief that you will find your dream kitchen. Don't go out shopping with a dreadful mind because if you do, the furniture you will buy for your kitchen will certainly give you something to worry about sooner or later. When you go out expecting the worst, what happens is that those very thoughts you sent out curse anything you will purchase into being something worrisome.
Fortunately, the curse can be lifted immediately when you change your mindset even after you bought your kitchen units. It's never too late to lift the "curse" and enjoy your furniture. In this article, I will show you how to plan to buy your kitchen units; from getting the right mindset, to budgeting successfully for your purchase.
Here are some steps to take to achieve the right mindset before you go out for your perfect kitchen units:
Sit and relax
Visualize how you want your kitchen to be for you, and enjoy this visualization. The more you enjoy the process and have faith in it, the better and faster the results will be.
Do not listen to people that complain
Most of these sad people have a mentality of seeing everything as a struggle, and they absolutely love complaining. What is funny about these folks is that once you stop complaining and stop agreeing with them, somehow you become the "annoying" one. They simply can't stand you anymore because you are "unrealistic." It's ironic that once you stop complaining and start being thankful for everything, they call you pointless and unrealistic. This of course is not true, because you are the one succeeding at this point and the complainers are the whiny losers who never get their way.
Here's a tip for whenever you run into their negativity.
Whenever some negative people begin to get under my skin, I get myself out of their mental vibe by one simple technique. All I do is ask myself a question that goes like this: "do these people live the life that I want to live?" Most likely, the answer is NO. Usually they are in debt, have a bad relationship with money, and they always, always, ALWAYS complain NO MATTER WHAT. Most of all, they are unhappy, and I certainly would not follow in the footsteps of these people.
So, always ask yourself that question when you find yourself doubting your self and considering their rubbish to be true. The best advice you can take from me regarding these people, however, is to stay away from them. You'll save yourself lots of heartache and "bad luck." I used to have a friend who after talking to her, I needed 3 Advil pills and 3 packs of cigarettes to get over the conversation (just kidding J I don't use Advil, and I certainly don't smoke, but that's how I used to feel after talking to her!) Needless to say, I don't talk to her anymore. Somehow, I seem to be significantly "luckier" than I used to be =D
Remember to keep your eye on the end result; meaning, keep thinking of that beautiful kitchen that you want. There is nothing wrong with wanting and desiring something good for you. You simply attract what you think, feel and believe on a subconscious level; some people call it the law of attraction. Believe it or not, this law will work on your kitchen! Sometimes we are afraid of our own dreams because we don't want to get rejected and feel hurt. There will never be hurt if you dream with FAITH. There is only pain when you dream faithlessly. So basically it is the faith, or lack of it, that determines whether or not your dream will be realized.
Eliminate worry and anxiety by FIRST addressing the worries and THEN replacing them with what you want. I will show you how to do that here:
Begin by addressing your worries while saying the statement that reflects how you feel:
Example of worry: 'I do not want a dishwasher that will not fit well with the drain and I don't want a dishwasher that doesn't wash dishes well.' This is what you don't want.
Now, replace that worrying though by eliminating any don'ts and no's in it:
Replacing: 'I will find a dishwasher that will fit perfectly with the kitchen drain and it will wash dishes very well.' This is exactly what you want.
It's as simple as that. All you have to do is drop the Don't and No's because if you use them in your desiring thought, you will still bring to mind what you don't want. You want to focus your thought completely on the things you want.
And remember, through this whole process you want to relax and enjoy it! Don't be the kind of person that takes the fun out, and, believe me, I sometimes forget to enjoy myself in the process and I regret it each time. When I realize that I do, I usually stop everything I'm doing and sit down and evaluate my self and remind my self of what my goal is. Through this simple action, I quickly regain my faith and composure. That is the process to the mindset of getting a great set of kitchen units.
Now that we have the mindset thing covered, its time to cover the next important topic:
Your budget and your kitchen units
When buying kitchen units for your kitchen use your logic; basically, don't spend what you don't have!
Stick to a budget when remodeling, know what you can afford and can't afford, and don't feel bad or underprivileged if you cant afford every thing in the stores. Remember, with the right mind set, you never know how things might turn out for you. Having a budget is always a must. You don't necessarily want to over spend just to make your kitchen look like a million bucks. You might actually spend that much and get yourself in debt if you're not rich, and you'll be sure to start cooking ramen noodles all year because you can't afford other luxuries, i.e. normal food! So, use your logic and make a budget.
What do you really need to make a budget?
- Make a list of all the things you want to have in your kitchen
- Divide the list into two sections: things that are a MUST, and things you can live WITHOUT.
I want to say something that will be very important in any buying venture you take. You might have heard it before but never took it to heart. ALWAYS HAVE MORE ASSET THAN LIABILITY. You might think that this has nothing to do with buying kitchen units but it has everything to do with it. An asset is anything that builds your income, and a liability is anything that takes away from your income. For example, if you cook a lot and you make big dinner meals, buying a stove that does not have insulation will cost you more money in the long run, but it costs cheaper up front. Whereas buying an insulated range might cost you a tiny bit more up front, it will actually cost you less in electrical bills in the long run. This is because the insulated range will save you money and will not be causing you extra bills for fixing your home due to poor kitchen conditioning.
If you still don't understand what I mean by asset and liability, here's a simple way to understand it in the most basic terms: if you're still paying for it AFTER you purchased it, it is NOT an asset and is therefore a liability since it's taking money away from you. Never buy liabilities (purchases that put you in debt). Always buy assets (purchases that save or make you money).
The Asset and Liability rule applies to everything. If you don't have enough money, or in debt, or are using credit cards to buy your dream kitchen, you have more problems than this article can help you with significantly. I suggest you buy the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad that helped me out greatly in my financial life. I'm sure it will be a great investment for you (a true asset, wink-wink).
Anyway, I digress, lets get back to business.
Following the above points will help you focus on what's important rather than buying something that you desire, but can totally live without. And once you know that you have a budget (even a tight one) and want to purchase decent kitchen units or remodel your kitchen into a better form, then you'll find more tips below.
Some things to do if you're on a tight budget
If your on a tight budget, cut down on some luxury items such as marble and granite countertops, imported fixtures and appliances, hand crafted and hand painted floor tiles, and hand-crafted wooden monkeys, you know, all the bells and whistles; the stuff that you can live without (remember: assets and liabilities).
If you can do it yourself, then do it! A lot of your expenses will be going towards hourly rates paid on labour work (carpenters, painters, etc.), so if you know how to do something well, then do it, especially if it has to do with fixing a kitchen unit. However, if you don't know how to do something at all, then don't do it yourself without properly knowing the ins and outs first. Trying to do something you know zip about is not smart; it simply would be unwise and borders on Cheap). In this case, paying someone to do it will be an investment, and doing it yourself will cost you a whole lot more in the long run (maybe for that awful hole you'll drill in the sink) and you'll pay double the time and money to hire someone to fix your mistakes.
To keep it safe, here are some things that you can do for yourself. Instead of paying someone to do it, you can easily work on the "finishing touches" and save a few bucks:
- Installing kitchen cabinets
- Painting the walls
- Painting cabinets
- Picking up the debris (don't underestimate this job, folks)
This way, you might actually save enough to afford some extra luxury item that you desire.
Tips for finding substitutes for some high-end kitchen units
Marble and granite countertop
A substitute for marble or granite is look-alike laminates. However if you want the real thing, specify 9- inch or 12 inch squares. They are not only easier to install but cost less then the running-foot chunks.
Cabinets
If you cannot afford high-end cabinets, then paint the cabinets! This will hide the notable grains of not-so-costly woods.
I hope this article helped you with budgeting for your kitchen units. Always remember to keep the right mindset by staying faithful that you will get that desired kitchen. Nothing is written in stone about prices and quality, so get the useless idea that "you have to be rich to have a beautiful kitchen" out of your mind.
You might have done the budget and saw that there is no way that you can get that luxury item you wanted (like the hand-crafted wooden monkey) or that great high-end range that you wanted. But, if you stay in a good place up there in your head, you don't know what will come your way. Keep your faith, there could be a huge sale on your favourite high-end item just waiting for you to purchase. God will turn things around for you because He knows exactly what you want. Feel great with this knowledge, and go out knowing that God is guiding you to what you desire. This always gives me great comfort and confidence and always leads me to something better than what I had expected; I'm sure it can do the same for you!
May you enjoy your new kitchen!
